We are thrilled to announce that The Compline Choir of Saint Michael and All Angels has been named a finalist for The American Prize in Choral Performance (Professional Division) for 2025. With only 10 other ensembles slated as finalists nationally, this recognition is a tremendous honor and a testament to the dedication, artistry, and spiritual depth that our singers bring to every performance.
Samuel K. Sweet, Director of The Compline Choir, says,
“Our singers are over the moon with this announcement. These artists are committed to offering the Dallas community a rich and immersive experience of sacred choral music rooted in the ancient Christian tradition of Compline—the final monastic office sung before rest—that aims to create space for contemplation, beauty, and peace through choral music. The ensemble consists of sixteen of Dallas’ finest singers and explores a variety of repertoire throughout the year. Whether it’s Gregorian chant, a Renaissance motet, or a contemporary sacred work, the goal remains the same: to cultivate a stunning musical experience that transcends time and touches the soul. To be named one of only ten finalists nationwide is both humbling and inspiring. The American Prize is one of the most prestigious awards recognizing excellence in the performing arts across the country and this acknowledgment affirms the importance of choral music in today’s world and highlights the work of ensembles like ours that continue to nurture this tradition at the highest level.”
We are deeply grateful to our singers, the leadership of Saint Michael and All Angels, and the broader Dallas community for supporting the choral craft. Your passion for music and your belief in our mission fuel everything we do.
As we await the final results, we continue to prepare and perform with joy and purpose—offering our voices in service of something greater than ourselves. Our next compline service, “Mater: A Compline Service for Mother’s Day,” is Sunday, May 11 at 7 p.m. at Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church.
Please come and experience The Compline Choir, right here in the heart of Dallas.
Thank you for walking this path with us.
Sincerely,
Samuel K. Sweet
Director of The Compline Choir
