Prime Timer’s February Luncheon

Thu, February 5 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm

Group: Prime Timers

In Room 201 (The Coke Room)

From modest beginnings in rural Georgia to multi-millionaire in Dallas, Algur H. Meadows realized that the opportunities in oil and gas in Texas were highly lucrative. Therefore, he founded the General Oil Company in the 1930’s, one of the largest independent oil and gas companies in the United States based in Texas. The growth of the company was rapid and highly profitable, allowing Algur and his wife to travel the world. It was on his many trips to Spain that he developed his love of Spanish art.

He became a passionate collector of art, primarily Spanish, during the early 1950’s. He was so grateful for how well he was treated in Dallas that he decided to found his Meadows Museum at SMU to hold his vast collection of Spanish and other art. This act of philanthropy and charity led to some surprising results.

Join us for this special event as we hear the remarkable story behind the man, the art, and the legacy that lives on.

The cost is $18 if prepaid online or $20 (cash or check) at the door, lunch is included.

If you choose to pay at the door, you must RSVP to Shelly Mathis at smathis25a@gmail.com.
