Stephen C. Foster Elementary School
STEPHEN C. FOSTER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
School Mission:
"Work Hard. Get Smart. Graduate from College."
Foster serves children from 3k to 6th grade, almost all of whom live in homes where English is a second language, and most of whom are impacted by the effects of poverty. Major renovations to the school and the surrounding grounds are already in process. Principal Jacob Johnson and his staff have been working hard to improve the programs and outcomes for the students.
A core part of our ministry will be the establishment of a tutoring program working with Foster staff in tandem with United to Learn. Initially, we will assist 3k to 2nd-grade students with phonics and 4th-grade to 6th-grade students with fluency. We will also support the teachers by providing hospitality and other resources as they work with the students and their families. There will be many opportunities to get involved from the annual Fall Festival, and Career Day, to community workdays, to help paint and decorate the inside hallways or to plan and provide afterschool programming.

We will work in teams but ask volunteers to commit to 1 day per week this fall semester. Training will be provided onsite during our initial days of tutoring. Contact the Rev. Robin Hinkle for further information or to volunteer.
