SUMMARY:Disciple-ing Your Grandchildren
DESCRIPTION:Group: Faith and Practice Series \nIn Room 201 \nLed by Dr. Tim Smith \nSundays\, January 10-31 \nIn the modern West\, retirement is sometimes looked at as slowing down\, doing less and doing what you want. But what does God want from us as we retire? Throughout the Bible\, the older generation is charged with spiritual responsibility. Seniors are given honor and wisdom that is meant to be passed on to others. Psalm 78:4 says\, “We will not hide them from their children\, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord.” Grandparents are meant to be spiritual stewards\, not spectators. You’re not a backup parent. You’re a living witness\, having seen God’s faithfulness over decades. You’ve walked through loss\, waited through silence\, and rejoiced in mercy. But how do you disciple your grandchildren? It starts with seeing your role differently: not as “retired\,” but re-assigned. Through this study\, you will learn how crucial your role as a grandparent really is\, be motivated to invest in your most important legacy and learn many wonderful practical helps on how just to do that.

SUMMARY:10 to 20: The Science of Motivating Young People
DESCRIPTION:Group: Parent Class \nIn Room 212 \nLed by Clergy and Staff \nSundays\, January 10-February 28 \nImagine a world in which parents interact with young people in ways that leave their children feeling inspired\, enthusiastic\, and ready to contribute—rather than disengaged\, outraged\, or overwhelmed. Around age ten\, puberty spurs the brain to crave socially rewarding experiences\, such as pride\, admiration\, and respect\, and to become highly averse to social pain\, such as humiliation or shame. As a result\, young people begin to subtly read between the lines of everything parents say\, trying to interpret the hidden implications of their words to find out if they are disrespecting or honoring them. The key is to adopt the mentor mindset attuned to young people’s need for status and respect by following a few highly effective and easy-to-learn practices. This study offers parents long-term strategies to help nurture well-adjusted\, independent\, accomplished young people who make a difference in the world.

SUMMARY:Project Moses Survivor Panel: Stories of Survival
DESCRIPTION:Stories of Survival: Human trafficking and the work of rebuilding\nIn Parish Hall \nThe Project Moses Survivor Panel: Stories of Survival invites our community into a deeper understanding of human trafficking\, an injustice often described as hidden\, yet in many ways it is hidden in plain sight\, often woven quietly into places and routines that appear entirely ordinary. \nBut awareness alone is not enough. This panel has been organized not simply to describe the realities of trafficking\, but to focus on what comes afterward: survival\, recovery\, and the difficult work of rebuilding a life. \nThe individuals speaking are not symbols or abstractions. They are people who endured coercion\, addiction\, violence\, homelessness\, fear\, isolation\, and profound loss of trust. Their experiences differ\, but they share something essential: they began again. \nNo one rebuilds alone. Across North Texas\, nonprofit organizations\, counselors\, shelters\, legal advocates\, teachers\, medical professionals\, recovery specialists\, and volunteers help survivors reclaim stability and dignity. Much of that work happens far from public attention. Yet it is often there\, in consistent and practical acts of support\, that restoration begins. \nOur hope is that this gathering will encourage not only understanding but participation. Not everyone is called to the same role. Many people can contribute in meaningful ways. Some are as simple as volunteering to serve meals. Others will participate in clothing drives. Some will have the skills to mentor or advocate. But for us all\, the most important contribution will be patience\, welcoming\, or simple human presence. \n\n\nRSVP Online here\n\n\n\nMeet the Panelists\n\n\nRobbie HamiltonYouth Mentor at New Friends New Life Robbie Hamilton is a Youth Mentor at New Friends New Life\, survivor leader\, business owner\, and nationally recognized speaker on exploitation\, recovery\, and hope. After overcoming trafficking\, addiction\, and repeated arrests\, she rebuilt her life through sobriety\, service\, and mentorship. Pardoned in 2020 as a survivor of human trafficking\, Robbie now helps guide vulnerable youth toward healing while demonstrating the possibility of lasting transformation. \n\n\nAva KamdenExecutive Director of Savhera Foundation Ava Kamden is a researcher\, consultant\, and executive director of Savhera Foundation whose work centers on economic mobility\, justice\, and survivor-led systems change.
