SUMMARY:Holy Saturday
DESCRIPTION:In Saint Michael Chapel \nThe Saturday after Good Friday\, which recalls the day when the crucified Christ visited among the dead while his body lay in the tomb of Joseph of Arimathea. In the Episcopal Church\, there is no eucharist on Holy Saturday. The BCP provides a simple liturgy of the word with collect and readings for the Holy Saturday service. The funeral anthem “In the midst of life” (BCP\, pp. 484 or 492) is used instead of the prayers of the people (BCP\, p. 283). In the ancient church\, those preparing for baptism and perhaps others continued the fast they began on Good Friday. Holy Saturday ends at sunset. Fasting and other preparations end at sunset or with the Easter Vigil\, which begins the celebration of Easter. -Courtesy of episcopalchurch.org \nLearn more about Holy Week

SUMMARY:Maundy Thursday Overnight Vigil
DESCRIPTION:In Saint Michael Chapel \nSign up for a time slot here \nWhile praying in the Garden of Gethsemane\, Jesus\, upon finding his friends sleeping asked\, “Could you not keep awake one hour? Keep awake and pray that you may not come into the time of trial.” \nOur vigil at the Altar of Repose in Saint Michael Chapel begins immediately following our Maundy Thursday Services\, lasting through the night and concluding with our observance of Good Friday. The Blessed Sacrament is laid on the altar of repose in the Saint Michael Chapel Columbarium\, which remains open throughout the night for vigil\, prayer\, and private devotion. During your time we invite you to meditate\, to pray silently\, or simply to sit quietly and keep watch\, remembering our Lord’s Passion and Death. \nPlease park in the west parking lot and enter the Saint Michael Chapel Columbarium through the south entrance. A police officer will be on duty throughout the night. \nLearn more about Holy Week

SUMMARY:Maundy Thursday & Stripping of the Altar
DESCRIPTION:In the Church \nMaundy Thursday Worship Bulletin \nFor centuries upon centuries Christians have been gathering together to retrace these last steps of Christ. And since we believe that these last three days cannot be separated one from another\, we celebrate them all as one liturgy. You will notice that from Maundy Thursday until the Great Vigil\, there are no dismissals\, only pauses until we gather again. From the intimate\, humble service we offer each other on Maundy Thursday\, to our time spent in contemplation at the foot of the Cross on Good Friday\, to the new light piercing the darkness at the Great Vigil of the Resurrection on Saturday\, these services stand as one. \nMaundy Thursday gets its name from the Latin word Mandatum\, meaning “commandment.” It is Jesus’ final commandment to his followers\, “Love one another as I have loved you\,” that we remember today. In John’s Gospel\, Jesus demonstrates this love of other in the humble act of washing his disciples’ feet\, where he gives the admonition\, “Do this for one another.” \nLearn more about Holy Week

SUMMARY:Aging and Fulfilling our Spiritual Purpose
DESCRIPTION:Group: Aging and Fulfilling our Spiritual Purpose \nIn Room 204 \nCarol Osborne writes\, “Admittedly\, establishing and maintaining both a hopeful and realistic vision of the aging process…challenges the best of us.” Yet\, aging provides the opportunity to redefine who we are in this season of life. We will explore how to thrive with purpose\, and leave a legacy that reflects our God-given gifts. Using Bible verses\, quotes from wise elders and poetry\, our time together will include discussion\, time for personal reflection\, and then sharing. SUMMARY:Bible Study Fellowship
DESCRIPTION:Group: Bible Study Fellowship \nRoom 205 \nIn Exile & Return: A Time to Build\, we will explore the lives of men and women who firmly built their lives on God’s promises. While they certainly weren’t perfect\, they were faithful. These men and women were willing to sacrifice everything to serve the Lord. When the world threatened their comfort\, their position\, their livelihood\, and even their lives—they stood firm. Books included in this year’s study include Ezekiel\, Daniel\, Ezra\, Esther\, Haggai\, Zechariah\, Nehemiah\, and Malachi. These men and women were not praised by their culture\, but their legacy of faithfulness still impacts us today. If you have any questions\, contact Kimberly Colonnetta at 214-683-1259. To join\, go to www.bsfinternational.org\, go to “Find a Class” and follow the prompts to Saint Michael and all Angels Episcopal Church. We hope to see you there!

SUMMARY:Tenebrae
DESCRIPTION:In the Church \nExperience the solemn and profound Tenebrae service\, where the essence of the last three nights of Holy Week is encapsulated in a single evening. \nThe ceremony unfolds with the use of fifteen candles arranged on a unique triangular stand\, each extinguished as one of the appointed fourteen psalms is concluded. The final candle\, symbolizing Christ\, remains lit after the last psalm but is carried away\, marking the apparent triumph of dark forces. A sudden loud noise is made at the end of the service\, symbolizing the earthquake at Christ’s death. The lighted candle is then restored to its place\, suggesting Christ’s eventual triumph. Worshippers depart by its light in silence\, recalling His suffering on the cross for our sins. \nLearn more about Holy Week
