SUMMARY:Never Enough: When Achievement Culture Becomes Toxic and What We Can Do About It
DESCRIPTION:Group: Parent Class \nIn Room 212  \nLed by Clergy\, Staff and Lay Leaders  \nSundays\, August 16 – October 11  \nIn the ever more competitive race to secure the best possible future\, today’s students face unprecedented pressure to succeed. They jam-pack their schedules with AP classes\, fill every waking hour with resume-padding activities\, and even sabotage relationships with friends to “get ahead.” Family schedules and incomes are stretched to the breaking point\, leading to skyrocketing rates of anxiety\, depression\, and even self-harm. Children are increasingly absorbing the message that they have no value outside of their accomplishments\, a message that is reinforced by the media and greater culture at large and is counter to the Gospel. How can we teach our kids to strive towards excellence without crushing them? As a parent\, you’ll learn what you truly want for your kids\, and why\, and what you can do to help them\, while maintaining balance.

SUMMARY:Reclaiming Evangelism in the Episcopal Church
DESCRIPTION:Group: Faith and Practice Series \nIn Room 201 \nLed by the Rev. Kenneth H. Brannon and the Rev. Cn. Carrie Headington \nSundays\, August 16 – 30 \n“Evangelism” means sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with our neighbors. We have seen plenty of ways this can be done poorly. But an Anglican understanding of who God is and how God works in the world can lead to expressions of evangelism that are authentic\, peace-filled\, and life-giving. Join us as we explore the biblical and theological foundations of evangelism and imagine what a “redeemed” evangelism could look like right here in Dallas. \nAugust 16 – Reclaiming Evangelism: Biblical and Liturgical Foundations\, The Rev. Kenneth H. Brannon and the Rev. Cn. Carrie Headington\nAugust 23 – Reclaiming Evangelism: An Authentic Witness to Faith and Hope\, The Rev. Cn. Carrie Headington\nAugust 30 – Reclaiming Evangelism: Practical Next Steps\, The Rev. Cn. Carrie Headington and the Rev. Kenneth H. Brannon \n \nCarrie Headington is an evangelist and apologist and serves as the Canon Evangelist for the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas. She speaks throughout the US and around the globe\, sharing the abundant life found in Jesus Christ with spiritual seekers and Christians alike. Carrie is the founder of The Good News Initiative which provides resources in evangelism.  She works with all Christian denominations\, engaging in evangelistic speaking\, apologetics\, and equipping congregations to be the hands\, feet\, and mouthpieces for Jesus in their everyday lives. She has been a guest on Daystar Television\, is a frequent guest on My Faith Radio. \nCarrie is a graduate of Oxford University with degrees in Theology\, Evangelism and Apologetics. Prior to Oxford\, Carrie received a BA from Yale University (major in History) and an MA from Harvard University in Education with a focus in Urban Poverty Policy. Carrie is an associate evangelist for British Evangelist Canon J.John’s Philotrust and  is active in the Lausanne Movement\, the Luis Palau Next Gen Network\, and is a blogger writing for Christianity’s Today’s Exchange with Ed Stetzer and The Living Church Covenant Blog. Carrie is an adjunct professor for Fuller Theological Seminary teaching evangelism and church planting. Carrie is a published author with chapters in The Gospel and Pluralism Today: Reassessing Lesslie Newbigin in the 21st Century (InterVarsity Press); Acts to Action: The New Testament Guide to Mission and Evangelism (Forward Movement); and Sent to Flourish: Church Planting Today (IVP Academic).  In 2017\, Carrie joined the Presiding Bishop’s Evangelism Team for Revivals and also helps lead  the Order of Evangelists in the Diocese of Dallas. Carrie serves on the boards of The Greater Dallas Coalition (churches working together to eradicate poverty)\, RECONCILE DALLAS (Movement for racial reconciliation)\, The Living Church Foundation\, and Gateway of Grace (refugees in Dallas ministry). Carrie is married to Greg\, founder of the Global Faith Project\, a ministry serving inner city Dallas\, Cuba\, N. Africa\, France\, and Latin America. Together they share a lifelong commitment to caring for the poor and equipping the church to be good news.

SUMMARY:Testimony to Grace
DESCRIPTION:Group: Engaging the Word (Bible Series) \nIn Saint Michael Chapel \nLed by Dr. Tim Smith \nSundays\, August 16 – September 20 \nPaul’s letter to the Romans is a monumental testimony to the faith and practice of the early church. It has inspired Christians throughout the ages and has also elicited a number of theological questions and controversies. In this series\, we will explore the various themes and images Paul uses to unfold his account of the gospel of Christ and will also look briefly at some paradigmatic examples from the history of the church of how others have engaged Paul’s work. What we discover in this class will enable us to grow both in understanding and in our lived experience of the fullness of grace Paul describes.
