Altar Guild
The Altar Guild is responsible for the preparation and care of the vestments, vessels, flowers and linens used at the altar. The mission of the Saint Michael Altar Guild is to serve God through the preparation of all things necessary for the celebration of the sacraments and offices of the church and to nurture and train members to view their ministry as a sacred trust performed with loyal devotion, willingness, and dependability.

Acolyte Corps
The Acolyte Corps of Saint Michael is composed of 200 persons (adults and youth) who serve at the altar assisting the priests or by participating in the processional traditions of our liturgy. They serve at all parish services and on special occasions, i.e. Baptisms, Confirmation, Weddings, and Funerals. Yearly activities include training sessions and several social events.

Chalice Bearers
The Chalice Bearers are a group of men, women, and teens licensed by the Bishop for a three-year period to assist the priests during the Eucharist by administration of the chalice. Annual activities include training sessions, social events and a retreat.

Lay Readers
The Lay Readers of Saint Michael is a group of persons who read Scripture and lead the Intercessory Prayers during all Sunday services and on High Holy Days, i.e. Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Epiphany, Ash Wednesday, Holy Week Services, Easter Eve, and Ascension. Special training sessions on the techniques of liturgical reading are held annually, as well as opportunities for fellowship and spiritual growth.

Ushers
The ushers serve as ambassadors of goodwill to Saint Michael members and visitors. These volunteers cover all of the Sunday services and other special services. The central purpose of the Usher Corps is to ensure order in our worship, to facilitate the presentation of oblations, and to collect the tithes and offerings. There are teams of Ushers who serve in rotation. Each team has several members, but there are always openings and needs as our Sunday Services have grown. For more information, please call the church office.

Verger
In the early church the Verger was the “protector of the procession” and carried a mace/verge to fight off those who would attack the clergy. Today, the ceremonial role is slightly different; the Verger coordinates the mechanics of the liturgy for all services and assists the clergy. By leading the procession for the main Sunday Services, High Holy Days, and when a Bishop is present, the Verger symbolizes the participation of lay people not only at worship but in all the work of the church.
