College and Young Adult
Who we are
We are a community of Dallas Young Adult Episcopalians, ages 18 – 39 who seek to follow Jesus and serve others. Meeting at both Saint Michael and the Canterbury SMU student center, we are an outreach, not only to college students, but also to college graduates who have not yet found a community of faith that meets their needs and young, working professionals. We exist to help young adults encourage one another to embrace God’s Love, and equip them as servant leaders to embody Christ to the world. This ministry is for all people who are "young at heart" as well as those adults who are interested in mentoring, guiding, and helping other young adults as they explore who they are in Christ. We hope you enjoy your visit and join us for life together.
Encouraging: A Community living Christ’s hospitality and fellowship
In a superficial world of social masks and false promises, we want to offer a safe place where individuals can be who they are, warts and all. We “encourage one another” to love the Lord and each other in authentic friendship and fellowship as Christ loves us. We seek to create a community of love, grace, humor, humility, and authenticity as we offer fellowship events where we enjoy each other, accept one another, and build up each other in the Lord.
Embracing: A Community seeking Christ in worship and spirituality
In a world stripped of mystery and spirituality, we offer a sacred space to connect with God. We seek to help young adults embrace God’s Love and to love the Lord with all we have in our worship and prayer lives. So, we construct worship experiences that help us connect with Christ and experience His presence through prayer, praise, and sacrament, as we offer ourselves to God in devotion. We use different musical styles, beautiful icons, incense, and candles to create worship experiences that touch the heart, challenge the mind, stir the imagination, and draw us into Christ.
Equipping: A Community imitating Christ in growth and discipleship
In a world immersed in information and drowning in activities, we offer a place where people can escape to think, ask honest questions, and get real answers. We strive to equip young adults to be servant leaders who will "make disciples," "teach all that Christ has commanded," and form the next generation of lay leaders and clergy who will transform the Episcopal Church and carry our faith in Christ forward to a new age. We offer relevant preaching and teaching in life-transforming Bible study groups, and we encourage daily individual spiritual growth practices. We also give them opportunities to serve in local ministries, and encourage them to explore the vocation for which God has uniquely shaped them.
Embodying: A Community practicing Christ in service and outreach.
In a “me-first” world that treats people as expendable tools, we want to bring Christ’s Kingdom of healing and wholeness as we give ourselves to serve others, loving our neighbors as ourselves. We are committed to go into our community and share the life transforming power of Jesus Christ with others. This commitment manifests itself in developing social justice ministries in which we reach out across town and the world to help the needy and make the world a better place, primarily through service projects, mission trips, and community advocacy.
