Quotes
"This is a tough year! But we know that God's work transcends economic cycles, and we have designated a percentage of our take-home pay for St. Michael. We are in this together, and through concerted gifts from the many parishioners of this great parish, St. Michael will have the resources to Share God's Abundance."
-Mary Adair and Dee Dockery, Co-Chairs, Stewardship 2010
"We pledge to honor God, thank Him for all our family's blessings, and thank St. Michael for providing a loving and stimulating Christian community for our family."
-Monique and Tom Black
"This year's Stewardship theme, "Sharing God's Abundance," conveys in a nutshell the essence of why we give to Saint Michael and All Angels. Due solely to God's grace and through no efforts of our own, we have been abundantly blessed — we have each other, we have this church, and we each have our own talents and gifts. Accordingly, these many blessings inspire us to give some of the abundance that the Lord has bestowed on us back to Him, knowing that whatever we give will multiply, reaching many others through His works and the good works of our amazing parish."
-Diana and Geoff Newton
"God has blessed and enriched our lives in deep and abundant ways. To give thanks for his continuing love, we are committed to give back to his church in the most generous ways possible. Giving to Saint Michael is through service, certainly, but it is also through the giving of our financial support. Committing to further God's work through our church stewardship pledge is what we firmly believe to be 'putting our faith in action.'"
-Jean and George Coleman
"As a family, we don't have to look very far to see how we are blessed. We have wonderful, healthy children, loving parent role models, fantastic friends, and a wealth of experiences too numerous to count. For us, this year's stewardship theme is perfect: "Sharing God's Abundance." We, as a family, are committed to sharing our many gifts. And, we hope that every Saint Michael family will prayerfully embrace this concept. It is true that sharing is a gift we give ourselves. We know that we must share in God's abundance — both in giving and receiving."
-Nancy and Kyle Moore
"For the last two years, our family has been driven by a need to follow a dream and a commitment to help the everyday person live more securely. It has not been easy. It has been challenging in ways we never imagined and made worse by the recent economic challenges facing our country. However, during this time when our financial gifts to St. Michael have been smaller than we have historically given, the blessings we have received have never been more significant. Clearly, God has been with us when we've needed Him most. While it has been tempting to let fear take over and give nothing, we continue to act out our faith by supporting His work through St. Michael and All Angels. No matter how big or small the commitment we are able to make, we know that God knows where we are and won't abandon us."
-Oleta and Paul Salyards
"Saint Michael and All Angels is more than a church; it's a community — our community. We support the things we love. Giving to Saint Michael is second nature to us. We benefit greatly from the many opportunities for learning and growing that Saint Michael provides us. We need the ministry of every priest on staff and have never experienced a more able group. We share daily in God's abundance; so giving back is a natural thing to do."
-Jo Loomis
"We give to St. Michael because St. Michael has given to us. Our church helped bring us together, raise our children, and provide us with treasured friendships that will last a lifetime. How could we not give to a place and congregation that has given us so much?"
-Sharon and Will Snyder
"I must say that the opportunity to give to Saint Michael and All Angels is the most meaningful one I have ever had. And it is with humble joy that I am part of the hope of matching God's blessings on this parish. Because of His work through clergy, staff and congregation, I breathe the spiritual air of a more prepared and fruitful life. So it is not without pause that I purposefully assess my ability to fulfill the hope by my continued response."
-Randall Robin
"I give to St. Michael and All Angel's stewardship campaign because it is an annual reminder to consider my relationship with God and the gifts of time, treasure, and talent He has given me. This year's stewardship theme, "Sharing God's Abundance," would be appropriate any time, but in this challenging economic climate, I believe its importance increases. Why? Because it challenges and encourages me to take stock of what is really important in my life."
-Todd Hart
"Why do we pledge? There are many reasons, and it is easy to list a number of which govern most people's behavior but may not be socially acceptable reasons or at the very least constitute bad theology:
- Our parents did and we grew up in that tradition
- It's expected of us — we're not accustomed to freeloading — letting someone else bear our burden.
- We're involved — like most social situations, we provide financial support for the activities we are most actively involved in.
- We've always been in some form of leadership and leaders do what leaders do — set the example for others to follow.
If those are not exactly the right reasons for pledging, what are the real reasons we pledge?
- We pledge because of the great examples provided by the selfless giving of our brothers and sisters in Christ who have provided a wonderful example to us over the last 30 years in this parish.
- We pledge because in good times and bad, we have come to realize that we are blessed and feel obligated, perhaps as good stewards, to return those blessings.
- We pledge because we have learned that we are truly blessed and understand that to whom much is given, much is expected.
- We pledge because we have always had more than we need and understand from our many blessings that we are merely custodians, stewards of God's gifts and abundance."
