“Taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven, and blessed and broke the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before the people; and he divided the two fish among them all.” — Mark 6: 41
“For all of them have contributed out of their abundance; but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.”
— Mark 12: 44
Simply stated, stewardship is using the gifts God has given us to do the things God asks (calls) us to do. In Sunday School this fall, your children will read the stories of the Widow's coins (Mark 12:44) and the five loaves and two fishes (Mark 6:35-44). The Sunday school teachers will talk to the children about the importance of giving to support the church. We hope that encouraging children to give at a young age will teach them valuable stewardship skills that they will carry into adulthood.
The week before Stewardship Sunday, each child (3 years to 5th grade) will receive a pledge card and offertory envelope to use for his or her own offering. Let your child know that you are making a family stewardship pledge. Together, bring the family pledge card and your child's pledge card to church on Stewardship Sunday, October 18, 2009, and share the experience of giving back to God in gratitude for the blessings He has bestowed on us.
Teach your children about "Sharing God's Abundance" with their friends, family, and Saint Michael and All Angels.
